Perio Chart Voice Command Reference

Quick-reference guide for dental professionals using voice-activated perio charting. Each row lists the action performed and all accepted voice commands that trigger it. Square brackets [ ] indicate variable inputs (tooth number, grade, site, etc.).

2. Phase Navigation

Switch between the Probing Depth (PD) and Gingival Margin (GM) data-entry phases. You can also jump directly to a specific tooth when navigating to a phase.

3. Tooth & Site Navigation

Jump to any tooth or surface within the current phase. Site abbreviations: DB = distobuccal, MB = mesiobuccal, B = mid-buccal, DL = distolingual, ML = mesiolingual, L = mid-lingual.

4. Entering Measurements (PD / GM)

Speak three values in sequence for each tooth (distobuccal – buccal – mesiobuccal, then distolingual – lingual – mesiolingual). Numbers can be spoken as digits or words. The word “to” is recognised as the number 2.

Repeat the previous tooth’s values for the next N teeth

Repeat the previous tooth’s values for all remaining teeth

5. Bleeding on Probing (BOP)

Mark bleeding at the current site, a named site, or an entire tooth. BOP can also be embedded within a measurement command by inserting “bleeding” at the appropriate position.

6. Suppuration

Mark suppuration (purulent exudate) at the current site, a named site, or a whole tooth. Both “pus” and “suppuration” are accepted.

7. Mobility

Set tooth mobility grade (0–3 or Class I–III) on the current tooth or any specified tooth. Grades can be spoken as numerals, words, or Roman numerals.

8. Furcation

Set furcation involvement grade (Class 1–3) at the buccal (default), mesial, or distal surface of multi-rooted teeth. Grades can be spoken as numerals or Roman numerals.

9. Missing & Implant

10. Batch / Regional Commands

Apply any action to a full quadrant, arch, or custom tooth range in a single command. Any valid action (bleeding, pus, missing, mobility, etc.) can be combined with any scope below.

11. Removing Entries

Correct any previously entered finding by prefixing “remove” before the action and tooth.

12. Speech Recognition — Homophone Reference

The system automatically resolves common speech-recognition mishearings to the correct clinical term. If a command isn’t registering, try speaking the word more clearly or use alternative phrasing.

Voice commands do not require exact wording — the system resolves close matches automatically. When in doubt, speak naturally using standard clinical terminology.
